Work Based Learning Experiences

Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School’s Engineering Academy’s rising seniors have learned the fundamentals of engineering, CAD, drafting, and state of the art technology tools through their course work and are motivated and eager to apply them in your business environment. Engineering Academy students will be required to successfully complete an apprenticeship or internship in an engineering/technical environment during their junior and senior years.

Off-Site Learning Experiences

During Off-Site Learning Experience, students tour facilities and participate in hands-on learning activities.

Job Shadowing

During job shadowing experiences, students follow professionals in the workforce and learn about the career and the various tasks involved in the role.

 

Internships

Students gain valuable work experience through summer internships during their junior or senior years.

Our "Pre-engineers" have completed the following:

  • Math, Science, and Tech Skills

  • CAD with Autodesk Inventor

  • Collaborative & Industry Related Projects

  • Engineering Design Process

Basic Internship Requirements

Pre-Internship 

  • Conference with Internship Coordinator

  • Submit all required pre-internship signed documents

 During the Internship 

  • Complete workplace orientation and learning objectives

  • Complete at least 10 journal entries

  • Internship Coordinator will complete a site visit 

 Post-Internship 

  • Complete and present electronic summary of experience (PowerPoint, Prezi, Animoto, Video)

  • Completed student and supervisor’s evaluation
